Philippine's Take on the Ebook Rise to School Setting

Apr 15, 2013

Are you carrying a big bag filled with books in going to school? What if I tell you that in the future, Filipino school children will only bring a phone or a tablet with them.

Paperless school, online evaluation, fast feedback, less mistakes in assessments, etc. These are just some of the advantages technology can offer to the education system. Aside from these, publishers can also earn from this.

Ebook Sales on the Rise

I was reading an article from Mashable, when I understood that publishers (a.k.a. Book Companies and Authors) earn almost 25% of their sales from e-books. E-books are electronically published books which you can read on phones, tablets or computers. Aside from this, audiobooks were also on the rise in terms of sales.

I foresee that in the near future, learners will be bringing with them their own tablets or phones to school. However, I also can foresee incidents of ebook piracy here in the Philippines and other untoward after effects of this setting.

I want to know what you feel about this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this setting? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
